Uniform: Your registration fee covers the uniform. We will provide a complete soccer uniform with matching jersey and socks. You are responsible for providing plain black shorts with no pockets, designs, or logos. This is required for each game.
Practice clothes: Uniforms are only to be worn in games, so your player needs comfortable athletic clothes for soccer practice. Choose clothes that allow a full range of motion. Sweat-wicking material keeps your child cool and dry during sweaty warm-weather practices.
Footwear: Soccer cleats are not required, but may make running on the field easier. If you purchase cleats, be sure they are soccer-specific cleats. They do not have a toe cleat. These shoes are designed for the sport to give your soccer player the support and traction necessary in the game. Players must wear cleats or sneakers for practices and games.
Shin guards: Protective shin guards are required. They rest at the front of the shin to protect from errant kicks and fast-moving balls. If you DO NOT have shin guards, you WILL NOT be allowed to play games or practice.
Soccer socks: Just like your child needs special shoes, he/she will also need special socks designed for soccer. The long socks go up and over the shin guards. Game socks will be provided with the uniform. Socks are required for practices and games. Socks provided with the uniform are for GAMES ONLY. Socks must fully cover shin guards.
Ball: Your child’s coach may provide balls during practice, but it’s always a good idea to have a quality soccer ball of your own so you can practice at home. Invest in a high-quality ball instead of a cheap foam ball that doesn’t give your player a real feel for soccer play. U6 uses a size 3 ball. U9 & U12 use a size 4 ball.
Goalkeeper gloves: If your child is interested in playing goalkeeper, consider investing in a pair of goalkeeper gloves. These special gloves are designed to support the wrists while allowing freedom of movement in the fingers. STYS starts playing goalies in the U9 level. We do have goalie gloves available so it is not necessary to purchase.
Water bottle: Soccer players spend a lot of time running up and down the field. The soccer season often falls during warm weather. Hydration is important, so outfit your child with their own water bottle. Write their name on the bottle to avoid mix-ups on the bench.
Gear bag: A backpack or tote bag designed for soccer makes it easy to carry all that gear to practices and games. These specialty bags typically include a spot for a soccer ball and all the other gear your child needs. Not necessary to purchase.
All games and practices are held at the Covington Community Center in Covington, PA. The address is 2150 N Williamson Rd Covington, PA 16917.
